The Bishop Seabury Academy athletic program is founded on a clear commitment to excellence both in the classroom and on athletic teams. A student’s participation in athletics can and should have a positive impact on student achievement. Our program provides opportunities for students to develop talents, experience the value of teamwork, and understand the importance of good sportsmanship. Within an atmosphere of caring and concern, we also provide an opportunity for students to participate in athletics, regardless of their backgrounds, talents, and potential.
We value as much participation as possible in Upper School activities while maintaining strong competitive standing with opponents. In the Lower School, the philosophy stresses participation and skill development above winning.
The Academy does not cut students from sports teams. We want all our students to have the opportunity to develop and improve their skills and to have the opportunity to learn the many life lessons that come from sports. At the junior high level coaches make certain that all students-athletes play so that they can apply the skills they have been learning in practice. At the varsity level, the Academy cannot guarantee all student-athletes playing time, but we do guarantee that they will practice and be full members of the team in every way.
Bishop Seabury Academy seeks to build an athletic tradition which is based not only on winning but also works to instill in our student/athletes values which not only apply to athletics but to life. Seabury athletics means more than merely winning; honor, loyalty, sportsmanship and teamwork are the virtues the Seabury coach tries to instill in our athletes.
